I wanted to thank you again for all your wonderful support getting me prepared for pregnancy. I think it made a tremendous difference; I’ll never know for certain, but I’d guess it would have been very difficult for me to now have a child without your efforts. If you are interested, here’s a link to some additional pictures of our son. (I have to laugh that I didn’t know that the picture of me below would also be destined to show up on the Kodak site’s advertising blitz; just what everyone wants—a mug with my belly on it!! Anyway, thanks for all you do for me and so many others.

Big hug and lots of admiration

This was an email communication from a patient to her western medical physician:

I thought you might like to see a picture of my daughter born recently. It is really too long of a story for email—but my healing journey started with my appointments with you and your suggestions of seeing several other people. Over the past 3 yrs, I’ve received acupuncture off and on to build up my immune system and get rid of my chronic sinusitis and sore throat that I had for a year and a half. Even though I had another miscarriage in the fall of 04 the physical healing from that was much easier and I was able to recover from that physically and even emotionally better. But I would say if you asked me last January if I would have a baby this January, I would have been rather doubtful that it would happen. But then by some miracle I think we conceived on my husband’s 40th birthday. This time I had my pregnancy monitored by the reproductive endocrinology group at UNC, got acupuncture and herbs for a few weeks early in the pregnancy for miscarriage prevention and had a healthy pregnancy. I also did the acupuncture program during the last 4 weeks of pregnancy to prepare my body for a smooth labor and had my pelvis aligned by my chiropractor and I prayed. A Lot! The practitioner at OHS is very good and I thank you for telling me about the clinic! My delivery on New Year’s Eve couldn’t have gone better—I worked with a doula and had another totally natural childbirth (my third) after having a C-section in ‘97 with my first child. But this was the smoothest labor by far. This labor went fast—I only had about 1 hr of tough contractions and then my daughter basically jumped out of me—she popped her head and shoulders out before my doctor was even there. Her birth has brought so much healing to me and to my whole family and I feel incredibly grateful.

I have always been health conscious such as making sure I got enough sleep, eating wholesome foods, doing yoga, etc. but have gotten sick often and couldn’t figure out why. Receiving Oriental medical care made me realize how much my emotional health is part of my overall health. My Doctor skillfully leads me to examine what my feelings are as well as examining how I am doing physically and treats me based on all the information. Having that awareness, along with acupuncture treatments and herbs I have become much healthier.

Great news! My cholesterol is down from 206 to 176, so my intention - not to mention my concerted efforts and your support—worked! Following is the complete profile. Liver enzymes are all normal, and my doctor suggested that I keep doing what I’m doing, so I’ll continue with the supplements and herbs daily. Thank you again for your advice and support not only with the cholesterol, but with the menopausal transition as well.

I just wanted to tell you how amazing I felt after yesterday’s treatment. My energy level hasn’t been this high in over ten years. I wanted to thank you for your excellent care and helping me through my menopausal transition.

Also, I wanted to let you know even though last Thursday was a terrible day, my stomach problem has totally disappeared! I want to thank you for yesterday. Several things. . .. being someone that I could share with. . . that I had written a letter to my husband. . . . and understanding. For asking if I had sent it (followed thru). . . . and what the hardest thing about doing it was. . . . . for letting me be with my grief. . . . for always gently giving me such space to feel and to share. . . .what I feel at the moment. . . joy and sadness. . . whatever comes up. . .. For the peacefulness of the treatment. .. the healing of it. . . . the thunderstorm that was somehow so appropriate (I know you did not really create that.. . . but it was no coincidence). . . kind of like the weather the past week or so. . . . :) For teaching and sharing with me the correlation of ancient Chinese wisdom and leading me to see the clarity of it all. . . how we are so finely wrought, so much a part of the rhythms of life. . . physical body and soul so intertwined. . . Number two reason is you have done such a good job, that I feel my health is at a point that is good now (as long as I continue to eat healthy). I wanted to say a great big Thank You for everything. When I first came in I felt low energy, aches and pains, headaches, twisting in my stomach. And now, I have energy, I have no headaches and no aches and pains and no twisting in my stomach. At this point, I feel as long as I continue to feed my body good food that it will continue to get strengthened. I feel so much healthier. Thank you, thank you, Thank you. You do your job very well. I will miss coming in, I enjoyed chatting with you. I wish you the very best in all that you set your hands upon. I will definitely mention you to everyone I know, and refer people to you. Wanted to give you an update: my neck/shoulders are both feeling much better! I have slept well since Saturday night… the best in over two weeks! So, I have you to thank for most of this. We visited friends in Wilmington Sunday and they are interested in finding an acupuncturist in that area. And thank you both for your support… I feel so GOOD!

I will be grateful when we finally get to AZ. Thank you for all you’ve done for me. My headaches are 95 % better. I appreciate it more than you know. All the best to you for the years to come.
